Celebrity Engagement Rings of 2020
Celebrity engagement rings are the biggest predictor of upcoming engagement ring trends. And if the celebrity engagement rings of 2020 are any indication, 2021 is the year of elongated diamond shapes. From ovals to emeralds to elongated cushion cuts, there was no shortage of elongated shapes among 2020’s celebrity rings. We did see a rare few proportional shapes on the year’s celebrity engagement rings, including some classic cushion-cut diamonds and vintage-style, rose-cut diamonds. But, for the most part, elongated diamonds reigned supreme in 2020.
Curious to see how celebrities wore elongated diamond shapes in style in 2020? From Ariana Grande’s romantic oval diamond design to Gwen Stefani’s glamorous radiant cut diamond ring, here are the standout celebrity engagement rings of 2020.
Ariana Grande
Perhaps the most famous engagement ring from 2020 is Ariana Grande’s highly unique pearl and diamond design. In December of last year, Grande posted a closeup of her engagement ring on Instagram, alongside the caption, “Forever n then some.” Her ring features a stunning elongated oval cut diamond, which looks to be around 5 carats. This diamond rests in a diagonal setting alongside a single round pearl, which is Grande’s birthstone.
Fans have speculated that the pearl set in the pop star’s ring may also have a deeper meaning. They’ve pointed to an old tweet in which Ariana wrote, “Nonna had a ring made for me w/the pearl from grandpa’s tie pin. She says he told her in a dream it’d protect me <3” This tweet included a picture of a gold band featuring a single round pearl that looks very similar to the one in Grande's distinctive new engagement ring.
Lily Collins
Emily in Paris star Lily Collins also took to Instagram to announce her engagement. This past September, the actress shared a picture of the solitaire engagement ring that her fiancé, director Charlie McDowell, designed himself. Her ring features a lovely, light pink diamond with a vintage-style rose cut. This striking gem is bezel-set atop a yellow gold tapered band, adding another striking detail to this stand-out solitaire diamond ring.
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato’s engagement to Max Ehrich may have been short lived, but the memory of her exquisite engagement ring lives on. Last summer, Ehrich proposed to the singer with a platinum ring that featured an 8 carat emerald cut diamond and two trapezoid shaped side stones. After the couple separated in the fall, it’s rumored that they each walked away with part of the diamond engagement ring, which was estimated to worth between half a million and one million dollars. Supposedly, both Lovato and Ehrich contributed diamonds to the ring, so each retained their contribution after the engagement was called off.
Conor McGregor & Dee Devlin
Champion fighter Conor McGregor proposed to his long-time girlfriend Dee Devlin in August of 2020. Devlin announced the news on her birthday by sharing a snap of her new bling on social media. Devlin’s engagement ring features an elongated cushion cut center diamond that looks beautifully clear. Her center cushion-cut diamond is prong set atop a slim diamond band that makes the 7 carat diamond look even more substantial.
Lady Amelia Spencer
Lady Amelia Spencer, cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry, got engaged to Greg Mallet in July of last year. A few days after the engagement, Mallet shared the news on social media by posting a couple’s selfie that showcased his new fiancé’s stunning ring. The ring features an oval cut diamond, a pavé band, and a scalloped diamond halo setting that’s reminiscent of the one featured on her late aunt Princess Diana’s iconic engagement ring.
Wilmer Valderamma & Amanda Pacheco
Wilmer Valderamma’s girlfriend Amanda Pacheco gave us the first celebrity engagement news of 2020 when she shared a photo of her ring on New Year’s Day. Pacheco’s striking ring features a sizable pear-shaped center diamond, which rests atop a diamond set band that appears to be crafted from either yellow gold or rose gold.
Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz
Model Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, got engaged to actress Nicola Peltz in June of 2020. Beckham presented his new fiancé with a classic engagement ring that features a beautifully clear, seemingly colorless emerald cut diamond center. This stunning center stone, which we’d estimate is around 5 carats, is complemented by smaller diamond accents that sparkle along the ring’s white gold or platinum band.
Jasmine Tookes
Victoria’s Secret model Jasmine Tookes got engaged to Snapchat director Juan David Borrero in September of 2020. Tookes’ incredible new engagement ring features a mesmerizing 7 carat oval cut diamond, prong set in platinum upon a yellow gold band. Though Tookes’ new sparkler appears to be a solitaire at first glance, her jeweler has said that the ring actually has diamond embellished prongs and an on-trend hidden halo that’s adorned with round cut diamond accents.
Martha Hunt
Jasmine Tookes isn’t the only Victoria’s Secret model who got engaged in 2020. In January of last year, fellow Angel Martha Hunt announced her engagement to New York based photographer Jason McDonald when she shared an Instagram snapshot of her ring. Hunt’s classic diamond engagement ring features a 3 carat cushion-cut center diamond and two tapered baguette diamond side stones. Hunt’s cushion-cut diamond is fairly symmetrical, making her one of the rare few celebs who got engaged in 2020, yet didn’t sport an elongated center stone.
Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton
Gwen Stefani debuted her engagement ring from Blake Shelton in December of last year when she stepped out to a red carpet event at Universal Studios Hollywood. In pictures from the event, you can see that Stefani’s engagement ring features a sizable radiant cut center diamond and two trapezoid-shaped side stones. The platinum ring’s airy raised setting adds a romantic element to this glamorous design, which is estimated to be worth around $500,000.
